Whenever I put my Durango into reverse, it wants to cut off when I start backing up, but only if I'm backing down a hill or slight decline. If I nudge the gas pedal lightly, it'll stay on, but it'll fight to stay on for a moment. On flat ground, or any other time, it's fine, just when I reverse down a hill. I don't think it's the transmission, because I don't have any trouble otherwise.

By the way, it's a 2000, and it's a slushbox. Any assistance with diagnosing this would be appreciated.

It doesn't normally, but the CEL did recently come on, though this was happening before it threw a code. I replaced the TPS on my last car, a '98 Cutlass, twice, and it idled at around 2000-2500 rpm. Would a bad TPS on one car behave differently from a bad TPS on another one?

What exactly do you mean when you say it cuts off?

The engine shuts off. I just put it in park and start it back up, it doesn't give any issues starting back up, but when I say it cuts off, I mean the engine just dies on me and I have to restart it.

When the TPS went on my Jeep, it mostly manifested itself as the transmission shifting as though my right foot was firmly on the floor (almost at redline). I also had slight issues with loss of power and engine temperatures, I'm guessing from bad a/f ratio, and occasional stalling. Also wandering idle speeds, but nothing extreme. I spent a couple days trying to find out what was up with my tranny before the CEL came on. When I checked the codes and got a TPS out-of-range, I just unplugged it. Throttle response wasn't great in that if you pushed the gas too quickly (or even really at all) it leaned out and died, but it ran much better otherwise without the bad tps in the loop.

For what it's worth, a bottom-dollar OBD2 code reader won't cost much more than paying a shop to scan and clear your codes. It's not a bad investment. When the CEL comes on, it's your computer telling you it wants to have a chat. Never a bad idea to find out what it has to say.

Also, check tranny fluid level just in case. There's a chance there could be something up with the torque converter lockup (prolly can't tell from the fluid) but that would likely be present in other forward gears as well.
